Catherine Jagoe is a British-born writer and translator based in Madison, Wisconsin. After earning a PhD in Spanish Literature from Cambridge University, she worked in academia for eleven years before leaving her tenured position at the University of Wisconsin to become an interpreter and translator. She holds ATA certification from Spanish>English and English>Spanish.

She has lived in several different countries (the UK, Ireland, Nigeria, France, Spain, and the US) and is fascinated by landscapes, languages, and the notion of home—the homes we lose and the homes we create. 

Her poetry collections include Praying to the God of Small Things, named a 2024 Outstanding Work in Poetry by the Wisconsin Library Association, and Bloodroot, winner of the 2016 Settlement House American Poetry Prize and the Wisconsin Writers Edna Meudt Award. Her literary translations include novels from Spain and Argentina and two co-translated volumes of Uruguayan poetry. Her nonfiction has won a Pushcart Prize and been cited in Best American Essays, while her poetry has been featured on National Public Radio’s The Writer’s Almanac and To the Best of Our Knowledge as well as in numerous literary magazines. She is a contributor to Wisconsin Public Radio’s Wisconsin Life audio essay series.
